My name is Cynthia Peedin and I am ecstatic to be joining the work of SEEA!
I grew up in Eastern NC running through corn fields and spending summers at the beach trying my best to become a mermaid. I thought going to the University of North Carolina at Wilmington studying Marine Biology would help me gain mermaid knowledge and while it did grow my love for the underwater world, organic chemistry killed my drive to pursue it further in academia. It was after graduating that New England called to my siren soul and I moved up to rocky shores where I gained experience in non-profit work, environmental education, and how to drive a pontoon boat. In hopeful pursuit of finding my role in this world, I studied Ecological Teaching and Learning at Lesley University to obtain a Masters of Science degree, which took me even closer to the sea living on an island and teaching students that even smelly marshes are cool. I was called back to NC not long after that to continue my work as an educator and non-profit organizations. Until I do indeed transform into an aquatic creature, I’m enjoying my terrestrial time as an educator to college students, working with NC Friends of State Parks in non-profit strategy and land conservation, a newly appointed board member to EENC, and passing on the love of North Carolina’s lands to all people.
