Our learners are more diverse than ever and yet for many of us, our curricular materials have remained unchanged and uninspired. How can we reshape our curricula to be more culturally and historically responsive for today’s learners? Join this session to learn about and explore the five (5) pursuits for culturally and historically responsive teaching: identity, skills, intellect, criticality, and joy. In this workshop participants are invited to bring a lesson plan or instructional activity to critique and improve for an increasingly diverse student audience. Together we’ll examine the five (5) pursuits, discuss what they look like in practice, and leverage the strengths of our session community to develop more culturally relevant student learning experiences that spark joy for our learners. Participants will walk away with a better understanding of CHRT and a draft of a culturally relevant learning activity to use in their classrooms.
